The short of it
grandcouvert.com sets no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels, and nothing that follows a reader to another website. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.
A small number of strictly necessary cookies are used to keep a member signed in to the private ledger and to protect the forms on this site from abuse. They are described below.

What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, and which the browser hands back on your next visit. It is a coat check ticket, no more: useful for remembering that you are already inside, useless for anything a reader has not asked for.

The cookies this site sets
Three, all strictly necessary, none of them shared with anyone.
- —gc_session — set only when a member signs in at the member entrance. It ends when the browser is closed, or after thirty days where a member asks to be remembered.
- —gc_csrf — set when a form is opened, to confirm that a letter reaching the house was sent from this site and not forged elsewhere. It ends with the browsing session.
- —gc_pref — set only if a member changes a display preference in the private ledger. It keeps that preference for a year and holds nothing else.

What this site does not set
No analytics cookie. No advertising identifier. No social network pixel, share button or embedded feed. No third-party fonts loaded from a host that would see your address; type is served from this site's own servers.
The house does not measure its readers. If we want to know whether the site is useful, we ask a member.

Refusing them
Every browser allows cookies to be blocked or deleted, usually under privacy or site settings. Blocking the three named above will not affect reading any public page of this site; it will prevent signing in to the private ledger, since the ledger has no way to recognise a member without one.

Changes
If the house ever needs to set a cookie beyond those listed here, this notice will be updated before it is set, and members will be told. We do not expect to.
Anything here that reads as evasive, tell us and we will rewrite it.
